Friday 11/18

Here's to a wonderful, safe, and relaxing Thanksgiving to all of you!

Enjoy some time with family and friends, give thanks for all the wonderful things in your life, and take a break from school and academics. You've earned it!

For those that didn't complete their MATHia modules by the due dates, this would be a great time to go back and get those old modules complete. Students that go back and finish old modules by the end of the semester will earn back some partial credit.

Here is this week's extra credit:

Thursday 11/17

We participated in a math lab today where we investigated the Pythagorean Theorem with a few GeoGebra applets and discovered why it works and from where it comes with parts of Lesson 6.1.

Homework: None

Wednesday HW Solutions: Chapter 6 Pre-Test answer key

We'll continue our work with the Pythagorean Theorem when we return from Thanksgiving Break.

Here's what Pythagoras is trying to show you with this theorem:

Wednesday 11/16

I was away today with our orchestra and jazz band, but in my absence you took the Chapter 4 test. I hope you crushed it!

Homework: Chapter 6 Pre-Test

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Tuesday 11/15

Today we took a look at the real number system with a clothesline activity. Please be sure to answer the questions at the bottom of the page if you haven't already.

We'll be taking our Chapter 4 test tomorrow. I'd recommend using the Chapter 4 Pre-Test as one of your best study tools.

Homework: Number Systems worksheet

Monday, November 14, 2016

Monday 11/14

Today we began a new module in MATHia X (Right Triangles). The due date for this module is December 15th.

We also went over the Piecewise Activity packet from last week and the Functions practice test.

As a reminder, we'll be taking our Chapter 4 test on Wednesday this week. Happy studying!

Homework: MATHia practice (at least 30 minutes)

Thursday, November 10, 2016

Thursday 11/10

Since we've now wrapped up our main work with functions for the year, we put our new-found knowledge to the test with a practice CAASPP Functions test today. We'll go over your solutions on Monday.

Your only homework for tonight is to complete the Functions and Linear Models MATHia X module. The deadline for completion is tomorrow at midnight, so if you've not yet wrapped it up, get in there!

Since there's no school tomorrow, you have a perfect opportunity to earn the grade you really want.

Here is this week's extra credit:

Wednesday 11/9

We worked on the Desmos Function Carnival activity a bit today, shared back our answers and thinking, and then did a piecewise function activity (instead of Lesson 4.5). It was awesome!

Homework: Finish the piecewise function activity

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

Tuesday 11/8

Today we talked about converting from slope-intercept form to standard form and vice versa. We also went over your homework from last week.

Tomorrow's focus will be on the awesome Function Carnival activity from Desmos! Wanna get a sneak peak ahead of the rest of the class? Head to and enter your class code.

Period 4: ZNXGH

Homework: Equations & Graphs Review worksheet

Tonight is a great night to practice mastering some of the things that have been tricky for you recently.

Also, those that earned lower than a C on the Chapter 3 test are encouraged to study their work at home, learn from mistakes they made, and retake the test any day this week at lunch. You can improve your grade up to a 75% by showing you've mastered the skills on a retake.

Monday 11/7

I was at a math meeting all day today, but in my absence you worked in MATHia X.

The deadline for the Functions and Linear Models module is Friday at midnight. Have you completed the module yet? If not, do you have a plan in place to get it done this week?

Remember, there's no school on Friday - use that to your advantage if needed!

Homework: MATHia practice (whatever it takes to meet your goals)

Friday, November 4, 2016

Friday 11/4

Today I was away at a math conference, but in my absence you worked in MATHia X.

Reminder: The deadline for the Functions and Linear Models module is one week from today. Have you completed it yet?

Here is this week's extra credit:

Thursday, November 3, 2016

Thursday 11/3

I had jury duty today, but in my absence you finished Lesson 4.3 with Mr. Simpson and are now proficient with both the standard form and the slope-intercept form for linear equations, including converting from one form to the other.

Homework: Rates of Change worksheet

Tonight's homework is really important and is worth double credit. Please be sure to do your very best work!

Tuesday HW Solutions: Lesson 4.1 Problem 2 answer key

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

Wednesday 11/2

Today we worked with equations written in standard form in the first half of Lesson 4.3. More on this tomorrow!

Homework: Textbook page 240 (#6a); Don't forget to use what you learned on #1-4 to help you!

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Tuesday 11/1

We jumped into Chapter 4 today with Lesson 4.1 in class. We did problem 1 in groups and went over solutions together in class today.

Your homework is to do the Problem 2 worksheet to determine . . . will he catch him?

Here is the correct solutions for #4 on your homework tonight (in slope-intercept form):

y = 4/5x - 8

You'll need #4 to be correct in order to successfully complete the rest of the assignment.

Homework: Finish the Problem 2 worksheet
