Monday 5/22 - Friday 5/26

Today was our first day of California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing. We'll continue our state testing for the remainder of the week.

There will be no homework this week while we conduct state testing. Woo-hoo!!

Be sure to get a good night's sleep each night and eat a filling and nutritious breakfast each morning. We want you ready to show off and demonstrate everything you've learned this year!

Also, I will not be in this week, due to my being at the Division 3 National Track & Field Championships. I look forward to seeing you all again next Tuesday, best of luck to all of you!

Today we finished going over our semester 2 review packet, then worked on MATHia or getting caught up on other work for the remainder of the period. Come ready to ace the SBAC next week, you'll all do great!

We discussed operations with scientific notation today in Lesson 13.5.

You should now be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers written in scientific notation, just as you can numbers written as a integer, decimal, or fraction. It's all connected.

Today we learned how to use scientific notation to represent both really large and really small numbers in Lesson 13.4. We'll do some more work with scientific notation tomorrow.

Today we finished up our look at systems of linear equations with Lesson 12.2.

We'll put your new knowledge and skills to the test on Common Assessment #5 tomorrow, followed by our Chapters 11 & 12 Test on Monday. Don't forget to put in a little extra time studying over the next few days.

Today seemed to go very well. I hope it cleared up this topic a bit for those of you who were still struggling. We were working very hard today as well, great job all around.

Today we finished up Lesson 12.1, further developing your skills in writing systems from a context and solving them using linear combinations. Today was a much better day than yesterday, keep up the good work. I know this can be a difficult topic which is why we need as much practice as we can get.

We discovered our third and final method to solve systems of linear equations today: solving by using linear combinations (also sometimes called the elimination method) in Lesson 12.1.

It takes a little bit of practice to get this technique down, but I think you'll find it quite helpful to quickly and easily find the solution of a linear system of equations.

Be sure to use the example on page 652 to help you with your homework tonight!

We made progress in MATHia today, while some of us explored a little bit more with Class Craft. We're having fun with our characters but make sure we are on progress to meet the MATHia deadline.

This Friday we actually have our next Common Assessment, so I have decided to extend the deadline for MATHia to Monday night. That gives us an extra weekend to get stuff done. Keep up the work everyone.

We spent another day working with solving systems of linear equations by substitution, this time shifting our attention towards context problems and systems that model them with Lesson 11.3, Problem 3.

Be sure to put in an additional 10 minutes each night studying these new concepts and/or reviewing any homework or class work errors. This is tough stuff and requires extra effort to master.

Today, for our first lesson with Class Craft in place, we finished our look at solving systems of linear equations by graphing with the last portion of Lesson 11.2.

Parents: Ask your child to explain what the graph of a solution with one solution, a graph with no solutions, and a graph with infinite solutions would look like. If they match the picture seen here, you know they've got it!

Next week we'll take a look at solving systems using a different method.

We dove into Chapter 11 today with an introduction to systems of equations in Lesson 11.1. We've got A LOT more to do with systems, but today was a good introduction for us.

We finished out the chapter today with Lesson 10.4 where we investigated the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines.

We wrapped up Lesson 10.3 today using all the new concepts we've learned to find missing angle measures.

We have a practice CAASPP Test coming up on Monday, so you can all see the way questions will be asked on the new test for later in the year. Then we will finish Chapter 10 Next week with 10.4 and Take the Chapter 10 Test before break.

This Chapter is going by quickly. For those of you who have missed or will miss any class, make sure we are reviewing the very important key terms and their definitions and trying to do some work at home. Come to me with questions before school or during lunch if you need to.
